2007-08 Exports Of Textiles Amounted To US $20 Billion 500 Million In India.

In 2007-08, India's textile exports amounted to 20 billion 500 million US dollars and failed to fulfill the government's target.

 

The government set an export target of $25 billion for the textile industry.

 

Textile minister Shankersinh Vaghela told reporters at an event organized by the India Federation of industry and Commerce (FICCI) that the rupee appreciation had an impact on textile exports, but textile exports still increased by 10% over the 2006 to 07 years.

 

He said the government was taking measures to ensure that textile exports amounted to US $50 billion in 2010.
