The chairman of the Bangladesh garment and exporter Association said that the global economic crisis has set a warning for Bangladesh's impact. The garment industry's export orders may decline in 3-4 months this year, and the clothing industry is expected to face big challenges this year.

Buyers in the international market asked Bangladesh to export clothing prices down by 15-17%, export orders had declined, and orders for November 2008 were revoked.

The president of the Association asked the Bangladesh government to take immediate measures to support the export of the garment industry financially. Without government support, 28 million of the workers in the garment industry will be unemployed.

The president of the association also said that in the 2008 fiscal year, Bangladesh garments exported 11 billion 880 million US dollars, an increase of 27.04% over the previous year, but this year it is difficult to maintain this growth rate. The first half of this year was $6 billion 50 million for garments exports.

He also asked the government to set up a working group to solve the problem of clothing exports. At present, the governments of India, Pakistan, China and Vietnam have provided financial support to their own textile industry to overcome the economic crisis.
