The Ethiopian Government Is The First To Privatize Leather Goods Factories.

Since the establishment of the privatization and public enterprise authority in Ethiopia in 1994, more than 230 privatized state-owned enterprises have so far been privatized.

In order to improve the mode of economic growth and speed up social development, the Ethiopian government has decided to speed up the privatization process. The current 2006-2009 five year plan is aimed at privatization of at least 40 state-owned enterprises each year through various means.

The privatized state-owned enterprises are mainly from the processing industry, construction industry, agricultural products processing, hotels, pportation, trade and mining.

Among them, the textile and clothing and leather products factory is the government's first privatization enterprise.

At present, the enterprises that are being sold by Ethiopian privatization bureau are Baja Dahl edible oil company, Yas Si Mao Jiao edible oil company, Yesi foam plastic factory, Debele Bo Han blanket factory, Adai Baba yarn factory, yakti paper products factory, construction and coffee industry development company, Ethiopia splint factory, North Olmo agricultural development company, etc.

The privatization and public enterprise authority of Ethiopia is part of the Ethiopian trade and Industry Department. Its main function is to select state-owned enterprises and privatize state-owned enterprises through wholly selling, joint ventures and leasing on private basis.
